PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – The current world champion in the light heavyweight, Haitian-Canadian boxer Adonis Stevenson returned to Haiti Thursday, to share his professional experiences with young Haitian amateur boxers and various Haitian boxing enthusiasts, with the support of the Ministry of youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC).
After landing at Toussaint Louverture International Airport in the morning, the native of Carrefour went in the afternoon at the Centre Sportif de Carrefour where hundreds of school children and lovers of boxing have warmly welcomed him.
“I am proud and happy to have had the opportunity to visit Haiti and my home town that I have left since the age of 5 or 6 years and today I have to say that my dream became reality thanks to the Haitian Government,” reported the light heavyweight champion.
“I am extremely happy to be here at the sports center of my town to watch the Haitian boxing. I urge young people not to give up always keep hope to reach their goal , do not be discouraged and keep their determination, ” he added.
The native of Carrefour said he liked to fight in the streets of Quebec when he was a child , it is then that he decided to practice this sport in which he was crowned world champion in 2013.
Stevenson presented to young Haitians and future champions, his belts and donated gloves and boxing accessories to young boxers who made the trip to Carrefour gymnasium.
The president of the Haitian Amateur Boxing Federation(FHBA), Pierre Eddy Daniel was happy to receive the champion of the world and wishes to continue his collaboration with the Ministry of Sports for the well- being of these boxers.
On this occasion, two exhibition matches were played to welcome the world boxing champion Adonis Stevenson . And Adonis also took advantage of this visit to go to the sports center of the Haitian Amateur Boxing Federation (FHBA) to donate gloves and boxing equipments.
